New and Revised.... Porter County Fair Tickets

I just received the new and updated information about who is performing at the Porter County Fair this Summer. On Friday, July 18th .....Gretchen Wilson
On Saturday, July 19th (Matinee).....The Doodle Bops
On Saturday, July 19th p.m........The Naked Brothers Band (Karley will go to this)
On Sunday, July 20th p.m.......Josh Turner (Kelly Pickler opens for him) (Karley will also go to this)
On Monday, July 21st....Heart

Sorry about the Jonas Brothers not being able to come....they broke the contract.
Let me know if anyone wants tickets to any of these....we don't have prices yet, but I'll let you know as soon as we know. They usually are really good seats because we get them from the people who have first choice on buying the tickets.

Contact Information

I'd like to put together a Van Drunen Family Map. This could be a nice go-to tool so that we can better stay in touch, get directions to people's houses, etc.

In order to do this, I'd like to have the following information for everyone in the family:

Names (for proper spelling, etc.) of all family members under your roof
Address
Phone Number(s)
Cell Phone Numbers (s)
e-mail address

I'd also eventually like a picture of everyone's house- this winds up making the map really cool... but I'll save this step for a later date.

Would everyone please respond to this post by giving me the contact information above?

Also, for those concerned with privacy, I've edited the settings for this blog so that it's only visible to the authors... so this means that if you're an invited author, you can post (and will be able to see the contact information). If you're not an invited author, you will see nothing.

Porter County Fair Tickets

Thought I would let anyone who is interested.......The Jonas Brothers will be performing at the fair this summer. They couldn't get Hannah Montana, sorry Kate and Anneke! If anyone is interested in tickets, let me know because I have connections to get good seats if I tell them early enough. I know Karley screamed when she heard the Jonas Brothers were coming....whoever they are?!

Hoede de naam op

Circa 1820’s- Just north of Udenhout and East of Waalwijk the dinner bell rang. Hans called his family to the table. The special meal of bone in pot roast, mashed potatoes, carrots, and applesauce was to celebrate Peters last meal with his family.
Peter had received a scholarship for agriculture in Amsterdam, specifically onion farming. No one in the town of Drunen knew of anybody who had gone to school in Amsterdam, let alone a Van Drunen. Scholarships were usually reserved for the connected families in Tiburg or Etten. A recognized family name pulled a lot of weight in these schools. Peter knew he would be representing his family and asked his father for advice. Hans slowly finished chewing his carrots, the grit between his teeth reminding him that they came from the garden out back. For a second the table was eerily quiet. Hans folded his hands that held up his chin, looked Peter in the eye, and said, “hoede de naam op”.
TRUE STORY
Few homes had central air conditioning in 1967. This fact weighed in on Wayne and Elmer’s decision to go into the heating business. Van Drunen Heating was born. They started with very little money and equipment. When jobs presented themselves they always accepted the challenge and found a way to get them accomplished.
One time Elmer and Wayne needed special tools that they did not have for a job that they sold. Rob Van Drunen, the onion farmer, lived on the west side of town. He would have the tools they needed, but could they use them? They asked and Rob said that that would be fine. When the job was done, they returned the tools, and the brothers stood before Rob, asking what they owed him. Rob said “You owe me no money.” Then he paused for a moment, looked them in the eyes, and said “There is one thing that you can do- keep the name up”.
So would we for one day want to change places with Bill (one of our former presidents), Kobe on the court, or Napoleon Bonaparte? No! For we have higher standards than that. As for earthly mentors we will follow men the likes of Rob, Grandpa, and Elmer. We are Van Drunens and we must remember hoede de naam op.

Hey, Craig

Craig,

Video Conest- A cool idea for events

Click on the banner above to check out a video contest that we have going here at Timothy Christian Schools. We had our annual 8th grade visitation day early in February, and we gave each team a one-time use video camera, and a list of stuff to capture on camera (be forewarned, it's basically 8th graders going "appropriately crazy" on camera!).

We then started a contest to see which team will have the most views by the end of the month.

If you've got the time, I recommend checking out the Raiders or Athletics team videos.

This idea was really cheap, the tech-know how is getting to be very easy with YouTube, etc., and the kids are loving it- if any of you are in charge of an event that needs a mixer-type game, I'd highly recommend something like this.

First Blog Contribution

Well I wanted to make my first contribution to the family blog a special one and I finally figured out how to get pictures off my phone onto the computer. So whats better than Americas next top model (toddler edition), Kate, holding a puppy during christmas. It doesn't get much cuter than that. By the way Kate, I hope you don't mind that I've been using this picture to get dates.

Calvin vs. Prcs Basketball game true story

Feb 12,2008 Grade school basketball Calvin Christian versus So. Holland Protestant Reformed
Christian School 4:45 start time. The premier Christian school pairing slated for this day in the Chicagoland area. The marquee matchup is Mark VanderZee vs. Eric Van Drunen one on one
at guard position. The stage is set, thirteen seconds remaining in the game. Three points
separate these teams. Both teams have played zone defense all game long. The ball is being taken out under the basket. One of the coaches tells his team to go man to man. His team needs a takeaway. Nothing has to be said. They know this is the moment. They have prepared for
this for the past thirteen years. Van Drunen and VanderZee seek each other out. They are standing chest to chest in the middle of the lane. The other players know their calling and clear out far away from the cousins. The two centers on the teams are bumping into each other away from the ball. The ref gets ready to inbound the ball and warns the players to knock it off. Mark
and Eric are jockeying for position. Every movement has a purpose. Their footwork is phenomenal. It's a game of chess pitting Adidas vs. Nike. Point-counterpoint. Point -counterpoint. A move was made that has not been seen since Pele used that type of footwork via the bicycle kick to redirect a soccer ball into the net. In the sport of basketball games are won away from the ball. And these guys are adding a new chapter to the book. The cousins never saw the ref eyeing them but did hear him exclaim, " I said knock it off. Quit pushing or I'll
call a foul!" He was talking to the guys in the lane -them. At that moment they looked each other in the eye, gave half a smile and realized it doesn't get much better than this. This moment will never be forgotten. The rest of the game played out, it really didn't matter who won. History had been made. At that moment I realized this is blog worthy... Pictures may follow when I have time.

Just thought I'd update you on Wisconsin wonderland. Today Brian made it to church (I hope), but Anna and I turned around and came home. It's 9 below with wind chill of 30 below. The wind is fierce and I was blinded on corners and plowing through drifts. I turned back once and tried another route, but a car was stuck in a drift in front of me. I'm thankful for a warm house.
Hope you're all safe

justin's tooth

We were at Winter Wonderland at church this weekend and Justin got his tooth (barely loose) ripped out. It got stuck on the mesh net on a jumpy house and when he fell - poof - the tooth came out. He said it didn't hurt. Guess that's one way to pull out your tooth!

Greetings from the Great White North!

Just wanted to say "Hi!" from school. (Well, this post is coming from Luther Seminary where we stay to save $$$$.) I'm likening my Gospels Class this week to trying to drink from a fire hose. A whole lot of information continually flowing. We have class from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a 40 minute chapel or community time and a 1 1/2 hour lunch. It's great and I love it although it's super hard being away from Kristin, Anneke, Justin and Kate.

Next week Global and Contextual Ministries!

Romney Rally

This morning, my friends Jon and Sara and I went to see Mitt Romney's Illinois (Glen Ellyn)stop on his campaign.

It was a pretty cool experience- we were only like 10 feet away from the man. At the end, when he was shaking everyone's hands, I yelled "We love you Mitt!" He looked at me and gave me a thumbs up.

For those of you registered in IL, the primary is on Tuesday. I'd be happy to talk more specifics with anyone.
